Laser Genesis can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation. It can also decrease pore size, stimulate collagen production, treat rosacea, and treat active acne.

Short pulses of light energy are delivered to the dermis, reducing pigment, inflammation, and congestion resulting in a more even and radiant overall skin tone, texture, and clarity. With your recommended treatment plan, you’ll see a clearer, younger, and smoother-looking complexion.

Treatment Information

Laser Genesis at LumiereMD

Laser Genesis addresses the following problem areas: diffuse redness, large pores, fine lines, skin quality, scars, acne scars, and active acne. Laser Genesis is safe for skin types and tones. Any skin tone can handle this treatment, even those that are prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

How does it work?

Laser Genesis is a nonablative vascular laser treatment (meaning that it doesn’t remove the skin’s top layer) that uses micropulse technology at a wavelength of 1064nm, firing short bursts of energy so quickly that it doesn’t damage the skin's surface. This energy stimulates the skin’s natural processes to diminish the signs of aging and sun damage, and promote a vibrant, healthy-looking complexion.

Micro-pulses of laser energy are gently delivered to the skin. The laser stimulates the body’s own natural processes to activate collagen remodeling to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and unwanted brown spots. Laser Genesis addresses facial redness by targeting the excess micro vessels.

How is it different than IPL?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) or photofacials use intensive visible light to address sun spots, redness, and fine lines and wrinkles. Most people require a series of treatments, spaced four weeks apart. Because the light therapy is absorbed into pigment (melanin), it’s not ideal for olive or brown skin as they have an increased risk of burning, scarring, and discoloration.

Laser Genesis, on the other hand, uses heat energy from a laser to enhance elastin and collagen production and improve the skin's texture by refining pores and smoothing wrinkles, making it a safe and effective option for all skin tones.

What is the treatment experience like?

You will be given protective, solid eyewear to wear throughout the treatment. The laser’s handpiece will glide just above the skin and you will feel subtle warmth and tingling. After the procedure, your provider will apply skincare tailored to your specific needs, followed by sunscreen.

How does the treatment feel?

You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure. Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. Numbing cream is not advised as it can dilate the vessels, reducing the reduction of redness.

When will I see results?

Improvements are gradual and will be seen over a period of a few treatments.

Most patients do notice brighter skin, along with reduced facial redness, pore size, fine lines, and wrinkles, as soon as their first treatment.

Patients with active acne outbreaks see reduced inflammation, less deep congestion, and a decrease in the number of active cysts. Some patients with active acne do purge after their first couple treatments, meaning they experience a short period with an increased number of breakouts occur to purge the underlying bacteria. Your provider can give you instruction on how to treat the skin during this time.

Results will continue to improve for months after the last treatment. To sustain results over time, ongoing maintenance treatments are encouraged.

How many treatments will I need?

A series of four to six Laser Genesis treatments are recommended to achieve an optimal outcome. Treatments are typically scheduled 1-3 weeks apart.

How long will results last?

Results from an initial series of treatments can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. Some people have Laser Genesis treatments as frequently as once a month in order to maintain their results, but this depends on your skin and the issues you’re tackling. Fading of acne scars and age spots should be long-lasting, if the treatment is combined with medical-grade skin care, sunscreen, and regular facial treatments.

Your lifestyle plays an important part in your skin’s health and upkeep. You can extend results from the Laser Genesis treatment by limiting sun exposure and wearing a sunscreen year-round, quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and committing to a medical-grade skin-care regimen.
